Valentine, in north central Nebraska, will use a nearly $2 million federal grant to improve storm water drainage. Judy Peterson of the Central Nebraska Economic Development District said the improvements will target the south Main Street area between Highway 20 and downtown, which was damaged in last year’s flooding.
“They just had a lot of water, and people driving through had to be diverted off of certain areas. In fact, water was flowing into businesses and damaging property and so this is an area that could very easily be improved and have more business growth,” Peterson said.
The grant will be matched by nearly $1.4 million in local investments. Peterson says following design work, construction is scheduled for May through August of 2022.
